Loyd Franklin Allen, a resident of Auburndale, Florida and formerly of Dothan, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020. He was 83 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 6, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Loran Mercer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.


Mr. Allen was born on April 17, 1937 in Coffee County and lived in Blountstown, Florida the early years of his life. He graduated from high school and joined the US Air Force in 1957. Mr. Allen proudly served this country for 20 years before retiring in 1977. He would graduate from Florida A & M with a Criminal Justice Degree. Mr. Allen loved music and played the base guitar with his brother. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He also was a wonderful handyman; he could repair and remodel most anything. Mr. Allen was a true animal lover, taking in stray animals that needed food and tending to. He was a homebody and a simple man who loved to watch Old Western black and white movies in his spare time. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Allen was a Mason.


Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his brothers, Y. J. Allen and Burton Allen.


Survivors include his son, Frank Allen; his daughter, Michelle Best; his 5 grandchildren, Samantha, Madison, and Gage Allen, Chelsea Laurenson, and Shelby Laurenson; his brother, Junior Allen; his sister, Martha Ann (C.J. Carpenter); and several nieces and nephews also survive.
