LTC (Ret) Henry Lucas “Hank” Quisenberry passed away at his home on Sunday, 31 January 2021 after a lengthy illness. He went to heaven just one month shy of his 92nd birthday.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with COL (Ret) Sonny Moore and Dr. Ben Bowden officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 302 North Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330.

Colonel Quisenberry was a Class of 1951 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. He was a multi-sport athlete but he loved playing football the most. He played four years of scholarship football for the VMI Keydetswhere he developed a reputation as a hard-hitting defensive end that opponents feared to face. “Hammering Hank” also strummed a mean guitar.

Henry left VMI in 1951 and took his new wife Jackie all the way to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for Artillery School, where he began his 20 year career of military service in the US Army. Later he would go to flight school, eventually becoming certified in every aircraft the Army Air Corps fielded. He loved serving. He loved flying. He was quoted in an interview as saying, “I never minded going to work.” And he could work!

He found a spiritual home at First Baptist Church, Enterprise, where he thoroughly enjoyed singing in the adult choir and serving as a Deacon. He adored his brothers and sisters in Christ, and those affectionate feelings were reciprocated.

Hank loved God, his family, his friends, and his Country. He was a tough man with a tender heart. We are thankful that he is at peace and in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. He is Home. God bless you all and thank you for the kindness and the love that you have shared with Dad, and with our family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Lee Quisenberry; his mother, Margaret Blanche Quisenberry (née Lucas); a brother, Ernest Lee Quisenberry, Jr. and a sister, Edna Sue Quisenberry (18 months).

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Quisenberry, Enterprise, AL; sons, Henry Lucas Quisenberry, Jr. (Cindy) Enterprise, AL; Carey Bruce Quisenberry (Ginnean) Clifton, VA; Brian Lee Quisenberry (Jessica) Birmingham, AL; Scott Alan Quisenberry (Stephanie) Enterprise, AL; 6 grandchildren.
