LTC Robert Hugh Taylor, TH. D., 79, of Loxley, Alabama, passed away on February 18, 2022.


Robert was born on October 3, 1942 to James Robert and Voncile Taylor in Andalusia, Alabama. After Robert graduated from Andalusia High School in 1961, he joined the United States Army serving enlisted for four years. He continued his military service with the National Guard in both Alabama and North Carolina. While serving in the National Guard he answered the call to preach. He went on to study at University of Mobile (Bachelor of Arts), Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity), and Andersonville Baptist Seminary (Doctor of Theology). He transferred to the chaplaincy in 1979.


Robert pastored Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church, Fairhope, AL (1970-1972), Ocmulgee Baptist Church, Selma, AL (1973-1976), Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Brimson, MO (1976-1978), Modas Road Baptist Church, Decatur, AL (1978-1980), Cedar Springs Baptist Church, Ashford, AL (1980-1984) and Oak Grove Baptist Church, Monroe, AL (1984-1990). Robert returned to military active duty in 1990 and served until his military retirement in 1993. He then returned to Ocmulgee Baptist Church and served as pastor until his retirement in 2007. After his retirement, Robert relocated to Loxley, AL where he continued to serve as a relief pastor and minister to the community. He was an active member of First Fairhope. In addition to his love for the military and the local church, he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 57 years, Pat Taylor. They travelled many miles in their motor home enjoying time with family and friends. He also enjoyed researching family history, Alabama football and NASCAR.


Robert was predeceased by his parents, James and Voncile Taylor; his sisters, Teresa Carlson and Ann Prestwood. He is survived by his wife, Pat Taylor; a son, Robert (Barbara) Taylor; a daughter, Tammy (Kerry) Enoch; eight grandchildren, Tyler Enoch, Tarah Enoch, Rachel (Sam) Higgins, Cameron (Heather) Enoch, Cameron Mathis, Courtney Mathis, Conner Mathis and Madeleine Enoch; one great grandchild, Breckkyn Enoch.


Visitation will be held at First Fairhope on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 1:00 PM with a Celebration Service following at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Fairhope Church Building Fund, 300 South Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532.
