Ludie Virginia Parmer Helms, a resident of Clayton, Alabama passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Baptist South in Montgomery, Alabama following a brief illness. She was 94 years old.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Clayton Baptist Church in Clayton, Alabama with Rev. Shane Traylor and Rev. Bill Brown officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in the Clayton Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Clayton Baptist Church.


Ludie was born November 24, 1929, in Barbour County, Alabama to the late James Berry Parmer and Gusta Irene Shirah Parmer. She graduated as Salutatorian of Blue Springs High School and later worked as a nurse for Dr. Ross, Dr. Jackson, and Dr. Hartzog. Ludie enjoyed gardening but her favorite thing to do was cooking and baking everyone’s favorite desserts. She was a former member of the Clayton Garden Club, an active member of the Dime Store Dollies, and Clayton Baptist Church, where in years past, she enjoyed singing in the choir.


She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Ralph Colbert Helms; two sisters; Minnie Syler and Shirley Campbell; grandson, Hunter Helms.


Left to cherish her memories are daughter, Jane Langan (Marty) of Luling, Louisiana; son, Randy Helms (Lisa) of Pike Road, Alabama; two sisters, Jeweleen Rudd of Rome, Georgia and Katie Palmer (Jim) of Montgomery, Alabama; three grandchildren, Erin Thompson (Bryton), Leah Langan (Rachel), and Hayden Glaze (Will); four great-grandchildren, Kirby and William Glaze, Everett Thompson, and Bobbie Langan-King; sister-in-law, Gloria Helms and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Asked to serve as pallbearers are her nephews, Kerry Palmer, Jim Syler, David Helms, Cody Helms, John Helms, and Anthony Helms.
