HEADLAND. . .Malinda Epps Morris, a resident of Wesley Manor Retirement Center, Dothan, formerly of Headland, died early Saturday evening, March 24, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. She was 67.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 27, 2012, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. A private burial will follow in the Headland Methodist Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Headland United Methodist Church Building Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL. 36345.


            A lifelong resident of Headland, Malinda was born in Dothan’s Moody Hospital on May 21, 1944. She graduated from Headland High School in 1962, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Huntingdon College in 1966. She entered civil service in September 1966 as a GS-5 Management Analyst Intern. She resigned in 1969 after her marriage to Emmett Terry Morris and before the birth of her daughter, Michele. After spending three years in Neu Ulm and Karlsruhe, Germany, where Terry was assigned during his Army career, the family returned to Headland. She returned to civil service in 1976. Malinda worked in the Lyster Army Community Hospital, the United States Army Aviation Board, and the Directorate of Resource Management at Fort Rucker, Alabama. She also worked for the Precious Metals Recovery Office, Navy Weapon Station-Earle, Colts Neck, New Jersey and the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Region in Memphis, Tennessee. Malinda retired in 2001 as a GS-12 Supervisory Logistics Management Specialist at Fort Rucker. During her twenty-eight year career, she received numerous Exceptional Performance Appraisals, eleven Special Act or Service cash awards, two Quality Step Increases, the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service and the Commander’s Medal for Civilian Service.


            Malinda was a member of the Headland United Methodist Church since 1952. She taught Sunday School at various times and volunteered in the church office after her retirement. She was a member of the Charlie Burdeshaw Sunday School Class. Malinda was a past Worthy Matron of Headland Chapter No. 422, Order of the Eastern Star, and a past Regent of Robert Grierson Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution.


            Malinda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emmett Terry Morris, her infant daughter, Melody Ann, and her parents, Julian W. Epps and Mary Ligon Solomon Epps.


            Surviving relatives include her daughter, Michele Ruth Morris, Dothan; her brother and sister-in-law, Rev. J. Walker Epps and Lynn Thomas Epps, Headland; a step-son, Thomas Terry Morris, Chicago, Illinois; a step-daughter, Kreszentia Morris, Dover, N.J. and her children, Princess, Julian and Damian; brothers-in-law, James Buford Morris and Dr. Mack Morris; sisters-in-law, Kiyoko Morris and Kathy Morris.
