Margaret Gafford Barnes of Samson, AL passed away at her home on Thursday, March 17, 2022. She was 91 years old.

Margaret was born in Holmes County, FL on March 7, 1931 to the late Terry and Ethel Trim Gafford. Ms. Margaret was a lover of nature and animals. This was instilled in her children and their children as well. She started planting flowers when she was just a girl and continued as long as she was able. She was a lifetime member of the Samson Iris Garden Club.

After the untimely death of her husband, Louie in 1968, Ms. Margaret became the father and mother of her household. She was a warm and beloved Homemaker with a giving spirit. No one ever left her house hungry.

She loved hosting bridal showers for her friend’s daughter and her daughter’s friend’s. This gave her such satisfaction.

Her love of antiques and décor shined through making her home and other’s homes beautiful.

She loved family trips to the beach and mountains, and we can’t leave out browsing flee markets searching for hidden treasures.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Louie Barnes.  

She is survived by two daughters, Joy Aplin, and Jane Weeks; one son, Marc Barnes (Tanya); grandchildren, Jennifer Hutto, Broc Barnes (Lindsey), Bailey Herrera (Michael), Lanea Faulk (Brad), Deanna Asdel (Michael), Dina Tucker, Erica Murray (Nathan), and Kristin Windham (Tony), 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Kabaci, and Elaine Cushing.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Kindred Hospice of Enterprise and to all those who gave her love and care throughout her illness. They will be forever grateful.
