Marie S. Hendrix, 90, of New Brockton, Alabama, left this earth surrounded by loving family, on March 12, 2022, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s.  She was born on August 28, 1931, in Stony Point, NC to Carl Brown Stevenson and Nellie Winters Stevenson.  She grew up in Stony Point, NC, on the family farm and graduated from Mitchell College in Statesville, NC.  She married Jack Hendrix in 1951 and lived in Stony Point and Lawndale, North Carolina and Enterprise, Alabama.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jack, three children, Diane Humphrys (Jim), Wayne Hendrix (Annie) and Charles Hendrix, 9 grandchildren, Jeremy Hendrix, Alan Hendrix, Chase Hendrix (Lori), Heather Long (Jordan), Mike Humphrys (Tracy), Dave Humphrys (Chrissy), Adam Humphrys (Clare), Jason Hendrix (Mandi) and Jake Hendrix (Leslee), 8 great-grandchildren, Alana Hendrix, Izabell Hendrix, Beau Humphrys, Bryce Humphrys, Evie Humphrys, Declan Humphrys, Caylee Hendrix and Mack Hendrix, two sisters, Martha Ellen Jones and Marjorie Swann and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Carl Brown Stevenson and Nellie Winters Stevenson and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Hendrix.

Marie was a bookkeeper who loved numbers and a physician’s assistant during her work career.  She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter.  She sewed Raggedy Andy and Anne dolls for all her grandchildren and made them beautiful quilts.  An avid gardener, she loved flowers of all shapes and sizes and fed her family with the many vegetables from her garden.  Her love of the outdoors never left her during her Alzheimer’s struggle.  She was always outdoors tidying the yard whenever able.  She was devoted to her church and had a servant’s heart always helping, serving others and offering comfort, support and friendship.  Even in the midst of her hardest Alzheimer’s struggles, she drew comfort from the old hymns which she knew and sang by heart. She was dedicated to her entire family and especially delighted in her grandchildren.  The family will forever miss her sweet heart, her mischievous grin and warm smile.  They take comfort knowing she is resting in Jesus’ loving arms.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Meadowlawn Cemetery, Enterprise AL with Dr. John Granger and Rev. Garry Winstead officiating.
