HEADLAND, ALABAMA. . . Marjorie Nellie Chapman Dickerson, a resident of Headland, went home to be with the Lord Thursday night, September 21, 2023, at Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation Center, Dothan.  She was 98.


            A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 5, 2023, in the Ewell Bible Baptist Church, 64 Susie Street, Ozark, AL (located in the Ewell community) with Pastor David Lewis and Pastor Dale Goodwin officiating. A viewing between 10:00 and 11:00 A.M. will precede the service. Interment will be held at a later date in the Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, 5050 SW 20th Street, Ocala Florida 34474. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations, Headland, Alabama, is in charge of arrangements.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ewell Bible Baptist Church, 64 Susie Street, Ozark, Alabama.


            Marjorie Nellie Dickerson was born in Chapmanville, West Virginia, daughter of the late Edward R. Chapman and Fannie Mae Butcher Chapman. After graduating from Chapmanville High School in 1943, she moved to Smyrna, Delaware where she met her future husband, Victor M. Dickerson and celebrated 55 years of marriage together. She worked for a Department of Defense Arms manufacturing company in Elkton, Maryland during World War II. Mrs. Dickerson and her husband were dairy and grain farmers around Middletown, Delaware for 45 years before retiring to Ocala, FL in 1989. She moved to Headland, Alabama after the death of her husband in 1999 to be close to a daughter.     


           During her married years, she was an active and faithful member of several churches, working in children’s and ladies ministries, decorating and catering for various events and always having an open door and a place to stay for Evangelists and Missionaries. She was most recently a member of Central Baptist Church, Dothan, Alabama and Ewell Bible Baptist Church, Ozark, Alabama. Mrs. Dickerson is preceded in death by her husband, Victor M. Dickerson, a son, Bruce Dickerson, all her siblings (10), a granddaughter, Dara Frost Shenouda and a son-in-law, David Frost.


          Surviving relatives include two daughters, Donna Frost, Wilmington, Delaware; and Vicky (Lester Bronard), Headland, AL; a son, Robert Dickerson (Lorry), Middletown, Delaware; 3 grandchildren, Lisa Miller (John), Deana Pan (Luke) and Chapman Dickerson (Melanie). Mrs. Dickerson also leaves behind 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.


          The family would like to express their appreciation to Extendicare Health & Rehabilitation Center and Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Dickerson during her illness.
