KINSEY. . .Marjorie Newton, a resident of Kinsey, died Thursday afternoon, August 24, 2023, at her home. She was 85.

            Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, August 26, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Winston Jay officiating. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

            Marjorie Newton was a lifelong resident of Kinsey, daughter of the late Chester Liddell Newton and Mildred Butler Newton. She was a member of Kinsey United Methodist Church. Marjorie retired in 2013 from the State of Alabama as a Group Home Supervisor. She was preceded in death by a sister, Minnie Newton Rogers, a brother, Reverend Wayne Newton, sisters-in-law, Opthelia Hodges Newton and Marjorie Farmer Newton and a brother-in-law, Walter Rogers.

            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Millie Shelley (Andy), Kinsey; a brother, Liddell Newton (Julia), Kinsey; grandchildren, Amanda Doswell (Adam) and Amber Slay (Kyle); great-grandchildren, Alec Doswell, Allie Doswell, Katlynn Slay, Mackenzie Slay and Brayden Slay; several nieces and nephews.

            The family would like to express their appreciation to her special caregivers, Linda Hallford and Mary Cody, for the loving care and kindness shown to Marjorie during her illness.
