Marvin Mitchell of Westville, FL passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. He was 79 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at West Pittman Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Smith and Rev. Kurt McInnis officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The family request that flowers be omitted, and memorial contributions be made in Mr. Mitchell’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Marvin was born in Holmes County, FL on July 20, 1942 to the late Theodus Jack and Bessie Lee Mitchell. He was an avid fisherman who especially loved fishing for mullet. As much as he enjoyed catching fish, his greatest joy came from cooking and giving away his catch. In addition to being a talented fisherman he was also an accomplished calf roper. Mr. Mitchell was widely known for his abilities in construction and custom home building.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy and James “Jim” Mitchell; one sister, Rebecca Thompson; three brothers-in-law, Bill Vickers, Albert Johnson, and Bill Kathman; one nephew, Brad Johnson.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Marilyn Owen Mitchell of Westville, FL; two sons, Scott Marvin Mitchell (Teresa), and Clay Owen Mitchell all of Westville, FL; three grandchildren, Jody Mitchell Richardson (Zak), Brett Owen Mitchell, and Haley Elizabeth Mitchell all of Westville, FL; two great grandchildren, Emma Dee Richardson and Marilyn Jolene Richardson both of Westville, FL; two sisters, Ruth Vickers and Betty Sue Johnson both of Bonifay, FL; one brother, Ray Neal Mitchell (Ellen) of Bonifay, FL; two brothers-in-law, Doferice Thompson of Westville, FL and Jempsey Owen (Diane) of Bonifay, FL; two sisters-in-law, Becky Mitchell of Samson, AL, and Carolyn Kathman of Bonifay, FL; and many special nieces and nephews.      

Serving as pallbearers will be Gregory Pope, Jim Locke, Greg Birge, Lee Berry, Roger Deal, Rickey Hall, and Lavonne Sketoe.
