Mary E. Davis of the Piney Grove Community passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020. She was 86 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2020 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ric Butler and Rev. Elbert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until time for service.

Mrs. Davis was born on March 16, 1933 to the late Fred H. and Sallie Lou Scarbrough Dyess. Mrs. Davis was a teacher for more than 25 years. She spent her entire career in education at Samson Elementary School where she ultimately retired from. She was also a Sunday School Teacher at Piney Grove Baptist Church for many years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lamont “Tommy” Davis; one sister, Helen Branch; and one brother, Perry Dyess.

She is survived by one son, Ronnie L. Davis (Shirley) of Piney Grove Community; one daughter, Carol McMurphy (Carl) of Hattiesburg, MS; three grandchildren, Chad Davis (Amanda), Lori Clearman, and Ryan McMurphy; five great-grandchildren, Austin Davis (Katelyn), Brittney Davis, Macey McMurphy, Dylan Davis, and Luke Clearman; one great-great grandson, Brett Davis; three brothers, John G. Dyess (Barbara), Gerone Dyess (Wanda), and Jerry Dyess (Sarah); one sister, Janice Crews; sister-in-law, Carolyn Dyess; and numerous nieces and nephews.
