MARY ELIZABETH HOWARD SPANN

HEADLAND… Mary Elizabeth Howard Spann, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away Tuesday morning, April 23, 2024, at the Graceville Health Center. She was 98.

          Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Headland, Alabama, with Pastor Philip Gagliano officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

          In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Balkum Baptist Church, P.O. Box 193, Headland, Alabama 36345.

          Mrs. Spann was born in the Camp Springs area of Henry County, Alabama, to the late Oscar Dowling Howard and Emma Clyde Radney Howard. She was a graduate of Houston County High School. She had lived her entire life in the Tumbleton Community and Camp Springs Community of Henry County until moving to Headland, Alabama five years ago. She was a homemaker until her late husband (Carl Edward Spann) passed away in April of 1977. She then worked with K-mart in retail sales until its closing just a few years ago. She was a member of the Balkum Baptist Church.

          Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Larry Edward Spann; her sister, Nell Tyson; her brothers, Foy Howard, Roy Howard, and Austin Howard.

          Leaving to cherish her memories are her daughter, Cathy Lynn Edge (Bobby); her sons, David Spann (Peggy) and Jimmie Dale Spann (Linda), her seven grandchildren; her 10 great-grandchildren; her two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

          The family wishes to give a heart-felt thank you to the staff of the Graceville Health Center, for the love and care shown through this time.
