MARY F. GUNTER
HEADLAND, AL… Mary F. Gunter, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away late Thursday night, September 28, 2023, at Westside Terrace. She was 75.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 2, 2023, at Clopton Methodist Church, with CH COL (R) Sonny Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes for contributions in Mrs. Gunter’s name be made to the Clopton Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Vivia Peebles, 101 Park Drive, Abbeville, Alabama 36310; or to the House of Ruth, P.O. Box 968, Dothan, Alabama 36302.
Mrs. Gunter was born in Denver, Colorado to the late Albert I. Fisher and Merle Peebles Fisher. She traveled as a young lady all over the world, while her father was in the military. She was a graduate of Auburn University with a BA and Master’s Degree, and a Juris Doctorate of Law from the University of Alabama School of Law. After graduating she taught law in Montgomery, Alabama at The Thomas Goode Jones School of Law (Faulkner University). She also taught at Troy University (Dothan Campus). In 1986 she started practicing law in Abbeville, Alabama with Charles Woodham. She continued practicing law in Henry County, Alabama until the present. She was the acting attorney for the Henry County Health Care Authority and also Henry County Water Authority.
Leaving to cherish her memories are her son, James Randall Gunter; her sister, June F. Murphy (Daniel); her nephew Connor Murphy (Christine); her aunts, Barbara Peebles and Joy Peebles; her cousins, Jeannie & Jeff Bostick, Alice & George Elliott, Chuck & Heather Peebles, Cleve & Rilla Peebles, Clay & Ashley Peebles, Vivia Peebles, Celia & Sonny Moore, and Sandra Sauls along with several other cousins, close family friends, and business associates.
