MARY JANE AXTELL

ABBEVILLE, AL… Mary Jane Axtell, a resident of Abbeville, Alabama, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 25, 2022, at a Dothan hospital. She was 74.

There will be a private memorial at the Axtell home.

The family wishes for contributions to be made in Mrs. Axtell’s honor, to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284-0692; or Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, Alabama 36303; or Enhabit Home Health & Hospice, 3379 West Main Street Suite 1 and 3, Dothan, Alabama 36305.

Mrs. Axtell was born in Houston County, Alabama, to the late Grady L. Carr and Vera Johnson Enfinger. She lived in Headland, Alabama most of her adult lifetime before moving to Abbeville, Alabama in 2004. Mrs. Axtell owned and managed an in-home daycare for several years. She later helped her husband manage and run Headland Insulation Company from 1985 until 2010. She had a great desire in helping raise funds for the American Heart Association. She was a member of the Camp Springs Baptist Church. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother, as well as grandmother and friend.

Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Eugene “Dan” Axtell, Sr.; her step-father, Billy V. Enfinger; and her brother, Steve Enfinger.

Leaving to cherish her memories are her daughters, Penny “PJ” Hamm (Chad), of Headland, AL, Patricia McAdams (Jessie) of Bonifay, FL, and Kim Sizemore (Danny) of Ozark, AL; her son and dedicated caregiver, Daniel E. Axtell, Jr. of Abbeville; her brothers, Billy Joe Haynes, Bobby Gene Enfinger (Malinda), Stanley Enfinger (Terri); her sisters, Judy Tyson and Deborah Larsen (Felton Whitlow) her grandchildren, Joseph Sizemore (Hannah), Chelsey Sizemore McDonald (Jordan), Alex Axtell Carey (Cody), Michael Hamm (Joanna), Anthony Garrett Hamm, Thomas Weinhold (Ashley), Daniel E. Axtell, III, Christian Hamm, Jesse McAdams, Jr. (Emily), and Elizabeth King Williams (Brian); her fifteen great-grandchildren; and her special aunt, Lindy Spangler.
