SHORTERVILLE…Mary Lou Mayo Sauls, a lifelong resident of Shorterville, died early Thursday morning, December 31, 2020, in a Dothan hospital. She was 79.


   There are no funeral or memorial services planned at this time. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


   Mary Lou was born in Fort Deposit, Alabama and reared in Shorterville, daughter of the late William Thomas Mayo and Nannie Lou Wolfe Mayo. She worked as a Sewing Machine Operator at various textile companies, including Carter Textile in Ft. Gaines and Russell Textile in Columbia. Mary Lou later retired from Clay County Nursing Home in Ft. Gaines. She was a member of the Shorterville Baptist Church. Mary Lou loved her birds and her special canine friend, Roxie. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Reynolds Sauls, Sr., a granddaughter, Rebecca Morgan Sauls, a great-grandson, Able Lee Carter, and three sisters, Marjorie Mayo, Jean Simmons and Bobbie Starling.


   Surviving relatives include two daughters, Debra Herrin (Larry), Clayton; and Melisha Moates (Vincent), Blue Springs; two sons, David Sauls, Jr. (Tammy), Shorterville; and Robert Sauls (Sheila), Dothan; a sister, Peggy Barentine, Athens, GA; a brother, Billy Tom Mayo, Headland; ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
