Mary Newsome Gilley of Samson, AL, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022. She was 78.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Hartford City Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Eddins officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m until 2:30 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Samson Fire Department or Rescue Squad.

Mary was born on June 24, 1943 in Geneva County, AL to the late Cyril Denton and Genary Frances McDaniel Newsome. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a 1961 graduate of Geneva County High School. She was employed as the administrative secretary for Samson High School for over 40 years. She retired from the Geneva County Board of Education after several years of service. She was of the Baptist faith and served her Lord with a quiet and gentle spirit.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Gilley, five brothers and three sisters.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Sheffield (Chuck) of Bonifay, FL, Susan Revels (David) of Samson, AL; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Baxley (Travis) of Troy, AL, Kallie Holt (Jordan) of Hoover, AL, Alana Sheffield of Bonifay, FL; two great-grandchildren, Brooks Baxley of Troy, AL and Hazel Holt of Hoover, AL and one sister, Sarah Helen Ketchum Gano of Dothan, AL and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
