Mattie Louise Welch Burch Connor

Mattie Louise Welch Burch Connor, age 93, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the home of her son, Wendell Burch in Cowarts.

Homegoing services for Ms. Mattie will be held at 11am Wednesday, February 19, 2020 in the chapel at Family First Funeral Care. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Grand Ridge, FL at 3pm later that same afternoon. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening, February 18, 2020 beginning at 4pm and lasting until 7pm at the funeral home.

Born September 12, 1926 to the late Willie Jahu and Pearl Carnell Welch, Ms. Mattie lived all of her life in Jackson County, FL until her sickness, at which time she moved to Cowarts to live with her son. She retired from Sunland Center as a caregiver. Prior to this, she formerly worked at Warner Brothers and in food service at Chipola College. In her spare time, Ms. Mattie enjoyed working in her yards and raising vegetables to cook with. Preparing meals for her family and friends was something that Ms. Mattie always enjoyed and those that sat around her table will always remember her good food and and her loving nature. She was of the Mormon faith.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Mattie was preceded in death by her late husband and father of their children, Price Burch; three sons, Gary Price Burch, Lynwood Price Burch and an unborn son; daughters, Shirley Simmons, Linda Sue Burch and Alice Lavern Taylor, a sister, Lonvenia Sherrod and two brothers, Thomas and Robert Welch. She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters and a great-grandson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Lynn Burch of Cowarts; a daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Lloyd Russ of Chipley, FL; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren also survive.
