Mattie Ree Blalock, a resident of Ft. Gaines, GA, died Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Southeast Health. She was 73.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. on Sunday prior to service time.

Mrs. Blalock was born February 9, 1946 in Cottonwood, Alabama to Henry and Morelle Hobbs Morgan and lived most of life in Georgia. She owned and operated Ft. Gaines Café for fifteen years.

She was a crossing guard with the Dothan City School System for many years. She later attended Police Academy in Albany, Georgia and was employed as a police officer in Damascus, Georgia and Ft. Gaines, Georgia for 10 years. Mattie loved singing karaoke and dancing. She was a Georgia Bulldogs fan and enjoyed fishing.

Mrs. Blalock is predeceased by a granddaughter, Brittany Lell and her father, Henry Morgan.

She is survived by a special companion, Don Burkhalter of Dothan; daughter, Tonya Smith (William Morris) of Dothan; a son, Donnie Smith (Kim) of Dothan; her mother, Morelle Morgan of Dothan; three sisters, JoAnn Harden of Dothan, Annette Spina (Nick) of Alford, FL and Helen Wright (Allan) of Newville, AL; four grandchildren, Lynn Parrish (Rob Golden), Nikki Gregory (Artigas), Erin Smith and Brandi Smith; six great-grandchildren, Abigail and Bailee Parrish, Madison, Bella and Dallas Gregory and Emery Golden; several nieces and nephews and her loving dog, “Darla”.
