Melvylen McCord Head of Dothan passed away on October 20, 2018, at Wesley Place. She was 83. Born in 1935, Mrs. Head was a native of Cottonwood, a graduate of Cottonwood High School, and a long-standing member of Westgate Church of Christ in Dothan.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Head, parents Clarence and Julia McCord, sister Gladys Messer, and brother Loyd McCord.

She is survived by her daughter Sherry Deegan (Ray) of Leesburg, VA; granddaughters Michele Deegan Giovaninni of Grafenwoehr Army Base, Germany (Kyle) and Shannon Deegan of Tysons Corner, VA; great-granddaughter Aelyn Giovaninni of Grafenwoehr Army Base, Germany; sisters Jeanette Thorne (Roland) of Dothan, Bobbie Womble of Orlando, FL, Dannie Sue Colley (Ronald) of Spring, TX, and Kaye Moreno (Rey) of Fort Worth, TX; 15 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Glover Funeral Home with Kendall Glover directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.on Sunday prior to service time.

The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to her care staff at Wesley Place, and dear nieces Sue Herring and Kathy Clements, both of Dothan.
