Merle D. Hughes Chalker

 

Merle D. Hughes Chalker, a resident of Dothan, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 at her residence.

 

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Berean Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday prior to service time.

 

Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL, 36303.

 

Mrs. Chalker was born December 3, 1929 in Pike County, Alabama and lived the early years of her life there. After her marriage, she moved to Dothan in 1952 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a seamstress for several different stores including  B.C. Moores, Sears and Singer. Mrs. Chalker loved working in her yard and was a member of  Berean Baptist Church.

 

Mrs. Chalker is predeceased by her first husband and the father of her children, John Daniel  “J.D.” Hughes; her second husband, C.B. “Sam” Chalker; her parents, Robert and Tearsie Dickey; her daughter, Edna Hughes; two sisters, Kathleen Dickey and Earlean Johnson and two brothers, Baby Boy Dickey and Huey Dickey.

 

Mrs. Chalker is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Jerry) McAdams of Dothan; two granddaughters, Ashley McAdams, and Tracy (Robert) Jolley; two great-grandsons, Rylan Jolley and Kaden Jolley; a brother, E.L.  “Buck” Dickey.
