Michael Patrick Wilkinson, 69, died at home on August 15, 2022 with his loving family at his bedside after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He spent his final months in the comfort of his home under the care of his devoted wife and family, and a caring group of sitters and professionals from Enhabit Hospice who were all blessings to he and his family during this time.

Mike was born on November 8, 1952, and grew up in Dothan, Alabama. Growing up, Mike was recognized for his incredible athleticism, relishing summers as a lifeguard and an avid baseball player who was known throughout the Dothan baseball league as a skilled player with great talent. A graduate of Dothan High School, he and the love of his life, Sandra, began their lives together in Tuscaloosa where he attended The University of Alabama. After graduating in 1975 with a BA in Political Science and History, he enjoyed an extensive and successful career in business and hospital management spanning over 40 years.

Mike’s greatest happiness in life was his wife, two daughters, and his grandson. Choosing to live his life focusing on the things that were important to him, he placed living with character and integrity above all else. Known for his compassion and empathy, he cared most about doing the right thing and demonstrating respect and love to all walks of life. Celebrating 50 years together this year, he and Sandra had adventures living throughout the Southeast, enjoying all too short retirement years together, and adoring their spirited grandson. Lover of honest hard work, vacations at the beach, good music, and Alabama football, he will be remembered as a devoted son, loving husband, and remarkable father who will be missed by all who knew him. It will be his family’s joy to share his unassuming approach to life that was founded on humility, kindheartedness, and giving your best.

Preceded in death by his parents Peggy and Pat Wilkinson, he is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Sandra Willoughby Wilkinson, daughters Stephanie Christie (Martin) of Fairhope, Alabama, and Brooke Wilkinson (Juan María Martínez Escrivá) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and adored 5-year-old grandson Lucas Martínez-Wilkinson. Also survived by his loving mother-in-law and brother-in-law, Dora Willoughby of Dothan, Alabama and John Willoughby of Montgomery, Alabama, as well as loving aunt and uncle Patsy and Herman Bush of Blue Springs, Alabama. All four surviving siblings reside in Dothan, Alabama, Jan Devane (Sonny), Amy Watson (Jeffrey) Charlotte Brown (PC) and brother Randy, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
