NEWVILLE. . .Michael Webster “Mike” Blankenship, a resident of the Bertha Community, died Sunday afternoon, January 28, 2018, in a Dothan hospital. He was 63.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 31, 2018, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Pastor David Lewis and Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Salem Cemetery in the Bertha Community. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Salem Cemetery Fund, c/o Billy R. Grantham, 826 County Road 7, Skipperville, AL 36374.


            Mike Blankenship was a lifelong resident of the Bertha Community in Henry County, son of the late Perry Webster Blankenship and Flossie Cook Blankenship. He was a member of the Echo Fire & Rescue Squad and was a founding member of the Panther Creek Hunting Club. Mike formerly served on the FSA Committee in Henry County and was engaged in farming all his lifetime. Mike was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Blankenship and Perry Blankenship and a grandson, Hunter Chance Blankenship.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Alice Helms Blankenship; two daughters, Keela Blankenship Bailey (Chris), Dothan; and Suzanne Strickland (Perry), Bertha Community; a son, Eric Blankenship (Brandy), Bertha Community; a step-daughter, Dana Pinyan (Phillip), Dothan; a step-son, Chris Martin (Christy), Dothan; two sisters, Ann Deloney (Derrell), Harvest, AL; and Linda Sanders (Mike), Abbeville; six grandchildren, Jaxon Blankenship, Seth Blankenship, Emma Blankenship, Preston Strickland, Abbi Strickland and Parker Strickland; eight step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Craig Mathis, Scott Blankenship, Hubbert Cook, Randy Tew, Greg Tew, Keith Trawick, Preston Strickland and Brad Hunter. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Echo Fire & Rescue Squad.
