Mrs. Mildred Purvis Speigner of Geneva passed away Monday, March 25, 2019 peacefully. She was 96 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Minister’s Doug Smith and Douglas Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m.


In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Speigner’s memory to Westgate Christian School, 617 Westgate Parkway, Dothan, AL 36303 or to Camp Wiregrass, P.O. Box 311072, Enterprise, AL 36311.


Mildred was born on April 2, 1922 to the late Daniel Pharoh and Lenona Clark Purvis. Mildred, who enjoyed being around people worked until she was 93 at Gilstrap Drugs where she was famously known for making homemade milkshakes. She would have never retired if her health would have allowed.


In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Speigner; four sisters and one brother.


She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Smith (Ronald) of Dothan; two grandchildren, Elise Sanderson (Derek) of Harvest, AL, and Doug Smith (Jessica) of Huntsville; six great-grandchildren, Aleah, Reed, and Jenna Sanderson, Porter, Millie and Davis Smith; two sisters, Jeanette Hughes of Alabaster and Martha Thomas of Geneva; and many nieces and nephews.


The family would like to thank Dr. David Arnold, Kindred Home Health and Hospice for their devoted love and care they provided to Mrs. Mildred.
