MIDLAND CITY. . .Morton (Buster) Hughes, Jr., a resident of Midland City, died early Monday morning, December 5, 2011, at his home. He was 78.


           


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Gentiva Hospice Chaplain Charles Goldsmith officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Ewell Cemetery, Ewell community, near Ozark . The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A. M. Wednesday at the mortuary.


           


Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Memorial Chairperson, P.O. Box 2123, Dothan, AL 36302.


           


Mr. Hughes was a native of Henry County, son of the late Morton Hughes, Sr. and Essie Dubose Hughes. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Hughes lived in Midland City most of his adult lifetime where he was a member of the Midland City Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Pemco World Air Services at Napier Field after forty years employment. Mr. Hughes formerly served as a member of the Midland City Town Council. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Skinner Hughes, a step-daughter, Carolyn Harper, a sister, Blonette Hughes Rudd, a brother, Jack Hughes, his step-mother, Ruby Hughes and two step-great-granddaughters, Kimberly Douglas and Victoria Lees.


           


Surviving relatives include a daughter, Cindy Perry and husband, Michael, Midland City; a son, Greg Bess and wife, Bebe, Dothan; two step-daughters, Shirley Brookins, Madrid; and Judy Isler and husband, Randall, Midland City; two granddaughters, Trina Livingston and husband, David; Kristy Weed and husband, Jeff; five great-grandchildren, Tanner Livingston, Ansleigh Livingston, Cole Weed, Maddox Weed and Aidan Weed; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.


           


Serving as active pallbearers will be David Livingston, Jeff Weed, Vince Calhoun, Tim Douglas, Terry Turner, Mark Robinson and Terry Peacock. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tanner Livingston, Maddox Weed, Cole Weed and Aidan Weed.
