Mr. Abb Jackson Smith, Jr. of Geneva, passed away February 5, 2012 at his home.  He was 87.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Geneva with Rev. Bill Kidwell officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until time for services.


 Mr. Smith was born in Coffee Springs, AL in 1924 to the late Abb Jackson Smith, Sr. and Rose Sellers Smith.  He was raised in Samson.  After serving in the U.S. Navy and then living briefly in Montgomery, he moved to Geneva in 1952.  He owned and operated Smith Craft Boats and Smith Brothers Construction Company, Inc.  He served on numerous city and civic boards through the years and was a past president of the Geneva Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow for exceptional service.


 He was an active member of the community and undertook numerous volunteer projects for the city of Geneva as well as help for local churches and organizations.  He received a number of awards and recognitions for his outstanding volunteer work.  Mr. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Geneva.  He was loved dearly by his family and his many friends.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Mildred Beck Smith; his brother, Maury D. Smith and his brother, Joel P. Smith.


 He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Smith of Graceville, FL, Becky Toole (Hubert) of Atlanta, GA, and Jackie Golson (Mac) of Fairhope, AL; brothers, Robert Smith (June) and Doug Smith and his sister, Sara Price (John).  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the First United Methodist Church of Geneva, 304 S. Academy Street, Geneva, AL 36340 or to the charity of your choice.
