Mr. Barnes W. Bratcher, age 83, of Georgetown, GA., passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Medical Center Barbour in Eufaula.

Funeral services for Mr. Bratcher will be held Monday August 31, 2020 at 10:30am at Glover Funeral Home Chapel in Eufaula. Burial will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, AL. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Glover Funeral Home in Eufaula. The family requests that everyone remains safe and follows all social distance and mask guidelines.

Mr. Bratcher was born on August 23, 1937 in Kentucky, the son of William Thomas Bratcher and Annie Mae Burris Bratcher. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Bratcher and Lloyd Bratcher; sisters, Hilda Steele and Gwen Ray.

Barnes Bratcher gave 20 years of his life to military service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He began his military career in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic in 1956 at the age of 19. He later transitioned to the US Army where he continued in mechanical work on diesel engines and tanks. He was very proud to have served in the US military and always shared of his experiences alongside his comrades. After his military service, Mr. Bratcher earned an associate’s degree and taught diesel mechanics at the collegiate level.

Barnes was a standout basketball and baseball player in high school, and he loved cheering on his grandkids and his Atlanta Braves later in life. He was very proud of his grandson who desired to follow in his footsteps and is currently serving in the US Army. Barnes was a hard worker and a well-known “handy man”. He loved fixing and rebuilding cars in his shop, golfing and fishing in his free time. He adored his dog Shelby, who he referred to as his “daughter”, and he never met a stranger anywhere he went. Barnes was a generous man who loved others like they were his family. He was an active member of Georgetown Baptist Church. 

Survivors include: loving wife, Sybil Phillips Bratcher; sons, Wayde Bratcher (Linda), Brent Bratcher (Michelle); daughter, Tonya Mershon (Walter); grandchildren, Brandy Bickley (Marcus), Bryan Bratcher, Chase Mershon, Anna Katherine Mershon, Royce Mershon, Heather Tyler, Hannah Flores, and Brendon Bratcher; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
