LONGSTREET COMMUNITY… Mr. Billy D. Lewis, a resident of the Longstreet Community, near Ozark, died Wednesday afternoon, February 16, 2022, at his home. He was 90.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 19, 2022, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mark Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Longstreet Cemetery Fund, c/o Ronnie Snellgrove, 1480 CR 143, Ozark, AL 36360.


            Mr. Lewis, son of the late Marby Lewis and Augusta Irene Dykes Lewis, was a native of Barbour County, near Louisville. He moved to Ozark in 1949 and was retired from Fort Rucker as a helicopter mechanic. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Austin Lewis and Perry Lewis, a sister, Virginia Willis.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-five years, Peggy Lewis, Ozark; a son, Scott Lewis, Ozark; a sister, Ora Lominack, Dothan; a brother, Lloyd Lewis, Elba; two grandchildren, Judd Lewis (Madison) and Emily Lewis; several nieces and nephews.
