Mr. Billy Jerry Hawkins of Malvern passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Noland Hospital.  He was 75.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Malvern Baptist Church with Rev. Hosea Parker and Rev. Larry Newton officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Malvern Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 97, Malvern, Alabama  36349. 

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:30 and continue until service time.  At all other times, the family will be at the family residence.

Mr. Hawkins was born on November 8, 1936 in Geneva County, AL to the late William Albert and Ruth (Merritt) Hawkins.  He was a member of Malvern Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon.  He was in the construction business for 40 years as a homebuilder and a real estate broker.  He owned and operated Hawkins Construction Company in Malvern and was a member of the Homebuilders Association of Dothan.

Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by three brothers:  Earl, Ralph and Ronnie Hawkins; three sisters:  Mildred Merrill, Annie Ruth Saunders and Bobbie Herring.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ollie Jean (Spivey) Hawkins of Malvern; one son and daughter-in-law:  Jerry and Paula Hawkins of Malvern; one daughter:  Sheila Hawkins of Malvern; two grandchildren:  David Hawkins and Kaelyn Reeves; one sister and brother-in-law:  Jimmie Saranthus (Jake) of Goldsboro, NC; several nieces and nephews.
