Charles Lee Metcalf, passed away on August 15, 2023, in Dale County, Alabama, following an automobile accident. Born on January 2, 1947, in Pike County, Alabama, Charles lived a life marked by generosity, love, and thoughtfulness.


Charles served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army and the National Guard. His service was a testament to his dedication and commitment to his country.


Charles was a member of the Sanctuary of Praise Church in Midland City. He was also an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in deer hunting and fishing. A true Alabamian at heart, he was a passionate fan of Alabama football. His love for flea markets was also well-known, always on the hunt for hidden treasures. Charles had a particular fondness for boiled peanuts, a southern delicacy he could never resist and every holiday season, he delighted in donning a red suit and playing Santa Claus, spreading joy and laughter to all.


Charles is survived by his daughter, Ginnie Lush, and her husband, Stacy; his sons, Billy York and Michael Metcalf; his granddaughter, Jordyn Miles; and his brother, Jackie Metcalf, and his wife, Janet. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Metcalf and Javie Senn Metcalf, his brother, Jimmy Metcalf, and his sister, Linda Metcalf Borah.


Charles was a man of great character, always putting others before himself. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, always putting his family first. His thoughtful nature made him a cherished friend to many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, August 18, 2023 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Jackie Metcalf and Reverend Ricky Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.


Serving as active pall bearers will be Dustin Gilley, Bo Metcalf, William Gilley, Evan Murray, James Lee Metcalf, and Joshua Metcalf.
