Charles McLendon, a resident of Big Creek Community, died Wednesday December 14, 2011. He was 83 years old.

Funeral services for Mr. McLendon will be held at 11 AM Saturday December 17, 2011 in Clearman Chapel with Reverend Mark Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Big Creek United Methodist Church cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 AM Saturday prior to the services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to: Cloverdale United Methodist Church, 102 Rollins Avenue, Dothan, AL 36301.

Charles was born June 6, 1928 in Dale County and lived his entire life in Houston County. He was a member of Cloverdale UMC and was a 50 year member of the Dothan Masonic Lodge # 466. Charles dedicated his life to his work and more so to loving and caring for his family. He retired in 1994 from the Department of Public Safety as a Master Mechanic for the Dothan Post State Troopers.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Billie Joyce McLendon; son, Charles “Butch” McLendon and wife, Vickie; granddaughter, Lara Campbell and husband, Steve; grandson, Chase McLendon and wife, Amy; great grandchildren, Evan and Ella Campbell, Bailey and Hannah McLendon; two brothers, Wilmer McLendon and wife, Katherine, J.D. McLendon and wife, Betty; two sisters, Lula Edwards and Mary Clark and husband, Hubert; sister in law, Mary Skipper and husband, Bobby; many special nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: Bill McLendon, James McLendon, Michael McLendon, Chris Holland, Chase McLendon and Steve Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be, Alabama State Troopers.
