Obituary: Mr. Charles Melvin Battles

 

Mr. Charles Melvin Battles of Hartford passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at Flowers Hospital.  He was 91. 

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Hartford City Cemetery with Mr. Battles’ grandson, Brad Battles officiating and Sorrels Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. 

Mr. Battles was born September 11, 1927 in Geneva County to the late Floyd and Gussie Justice Battles.  Melvin was a great father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter and will be dearly missed. 

In addition to his parents, his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Strickland Battles; and a sister, Voncille Collins preceded him in death. 

Survivors include three daughters: Fran Mitchell (Craig), Dothan, Tami Norwood (Clint), Dothan, and Renae Knight (Kenny), Hartford; one son, Duane Battles, Hartford; five grandchildren: Brad Battles, Justin Mitchell, Brandon Norwood, Blake Norwood, Jacob Knight; eight great grandchildren; two brothers: James “Orell” Battles, Milton, FL, and Elton Battles, Dothan; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
