Mr. Clarence O’Neal Jerkins of Geneva, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, September 12, 2012.  He was 82.


 


Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with a grandson, Christopher Slagley delivering the eulogy and Dr. Mike Shirah officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, September 13, from 5 until 7 p.m.


 


In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation.


 


Mr. Jerkins was born August 17, 1930, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth Price Jerkins.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean Conflict.   After 37 years of service he retired as superintendent of Geneva Water Works and then he worked for Reliable Products for over 10 years.  In his earlier years he served as a deacon to his church family.   Affectionately known as Neal, he was a true servant.  At the time of his death he was a member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church.


 


In addition to his parents, two daughters: infant, Lisa Jill Jerkins and Phyllis Jerkins Slagley, one sister, Bernell DeLidle, as well as five brothers, Comer, Tom Jr., Ferrell, Calvin and Bruce Jerkins all preceded him in death.


 


Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Geretha “Retha” Allred Jerkins, Geneva; two daughters: Cindy Hayes (David B.), Geneva and Brucie Cox (Bill), Montgomery; six grandchildren: Dr. Brandon Slagley (Lindsey), Greenville, AL, Christopher Slagley, Auburn, Lauren Hayes and Christie Spence (Brandon), all of Wicksburg, Emily and Tanner Cox, both of Montgomery; five great-grandchildren: Kate, Blake and Morgan Slagley, all of Greenville, AL, Rylie and Reagan Spence, both of Wicksburg; one sister, Sarah Jean Daniels, Hoover, AL; son-in-law, Gale Slagley (Jody), Greenville, AL; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
