Claude Franklin Gibson, Jr. was a man of honor, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his country. On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the world bid farewell to a true patriot whose legacy will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Born on Wednesday, August 22, 1934, in the quaint town of Waterproof, Louisiana, Claude began his remarkable journey that would eventually shape the lives of many.

From a young age, Claude exhibited an indomitable spirit and an unwavering commitment to excellence. He graduated from Waterproof High School in 1952 with a thirst for knowledge that would guide him throughout his life. It was then that he decided to embark on a path filled with duty and honor by joining the United States Army.

Claude’s military career spanned an impressive thirty-five years, during which he rose through the ranks to achieve the esteemed position of Sergeant Major. He served his country with distinction and bravery as he embarked on two tours in Vietnam, demonstrating unwavering fortitude in the face of immense adversity.

For his exceptional service and gallantry, Claude was awarded numerous accolades that stand as a testament to his courage on the battlefield. Among these honors were the Vietnam Service Medal with two silver stars and the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. His bravery and selflessness touched not only those who served alongside him but also inspired generations to come.

Following his military retirement, Claude found new purpose working for the US Civil Service at Ft. Rucker (now Ft. Novosel) in Administration. Even in his civilian role, he embodied integrity and dedication, ensuring that his commitment to service remained steadfast.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Claude cherished moments spent with family and friends. He was blessed with a sixty-three-year-long marriage to Brenda Bollinger Gibson--a partnership founded on love, respect, and mutual support. Together they built a life characterized by unwavering devotion, creating lasting memories that will forever be cherished.

Claude’s paternal bond extended to his son Kevin Gibson and his wife Rhonda. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and nurtured them with wisdom and unconditional love. Claude’s love knew no bounds, and his family always found solace in his warm embrace.

Claude Franklin Gibson, Jr.’s passing leaves behind an emptiness that can only be filled by the cherished memories he leaves behind. As the community mourns this tremendous loss, it is only fitting to commemorate Claude’s life with two important events. A Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark, Alabama from 12:30 until 1:30 P.M. Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects, rekindling memories of a remarkable man who impacted their lives.

Following the Visitation, a Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 15, 2023, in Ewell Cemetery in Ozark. This serene setting will serve as a final resting place for Claude Franklin Gibson, Jr., where he will find eternal peace alongside the heroes who fought by his side.

Claude leaves behind treasured memories that will forever echo through the hearts of loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude Franklin Gibson, Sr., and Elois Gibson, as well as his sister Carolyn Montgomery. Their presence may be gone from this world, but their spirits live on through the legacy of love they instilled in Claude’s heart.

In this time of grief, let us remember Claude Franklin Gibson Jr. for the remarkable man he was—a beacon of strength and honor whose unwavering commitment to duty serves as an inspiration to us all. May we find solace in knowing that he has left an indelible mark on our lives and that his memory will continue to guide us through life’s challenges.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Claude’s honor to a charity of your choice, embodying the spirit of service that he held dear.

Claude Franklin Gibson, Jr. lived a life dedicated to his country, his family, and the ideals he held dear. As we bid farewell to a true hero, let us celebrate the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind and find comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever reside in our hearts.
