On November 2, 2018, Clyde Tyler, 98, of Dothan, passed away peacefully in his home.

He was born in Clinton, Indiana, on September 14, 1920, to Charles and Katherine Tyler, the youngest child of thirteen. He married his high school sweetheart, Irene, in 1943, and they were married 65 years until her passing in 2009. In their early days, they lived in Detroit, Michigan where he enlisted in the USMC in 1942 to serve in WWII. He participated in the capture and occupation of Okinawa in the Central Pacific serving as an aircraft mechanic and remained there until Victory over Japan (VJ Day).  Attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, he was proud to be a Marine having served honorably until the end of WWII. 

Clyde, together with his wife and children, moved to Renton, Washington in 1958 to join his brother-in-law to become a successful building contractor.  Years later, after living in the Seattle area surrounded by Boeing and the aerospace industry, he trained to become a Quality Control Inspector and worked in that capacity until his retirement. 

His greatest recreational passion was boating, owning and operating a 40’ boat Hi-Land Fling. As members of the Yarrow Bay Yacht Club, they boated regularly throughout Puget Sound and often into Canadian waters. 

In 1997, Clyde and Irene moved to Dothan to be near their daughter and her family in their later years. 

Clyde was predeceased by his wife, parents and twelve siblings.

He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Beverly Shields, of Dothan, and Dennis (Margaret) Tyler, of Bothell, WA; his loving grandchildren, Patrick (Gabrielle) Shields, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Kristen Shields, of Dothan, Mark Tyler and Jeff Tyler of Bothell, WA; 3 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jarrett and Jameson Tyler, of Bothell, WA; a sister-in-law, Laura Tyler and children, of Clinton, Indiana; niece Saundra (Paul) Meeks, and nephew David (Karen) Tyler, of Hot Springs, Arkansas; nieces Carol Polk and Sharon Maison of Michigan; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Private interment will be in Memory Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Clyde’s name be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society in Dothan, Alabama, www.wiregrasshumane.com or the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank Stella Tucker for her longtime loving companionship and care, the staffs of Covenant Care Hospice and Encompass Health and the many caregivers and neighbors who enriched his later years.
