Mr. Peters was born August 3, 1954 to the late John Wallace and Eddie Lee McKinney Peters. The baby boy of the bunch, David grew up in Slocomb, Alabama, with five brothers and four sisters. He often recalled what it was like to be from such a large family and loved every minute of it. This is where his deep devotion to his family began. All who knew David knew how important family was to him. Being a member of the talented Peters family, David was born with an innate musical talent. At a young age, David taught himself how to play the guitar. He loved picking with his son, Aaron, as well as his grandsons, Brett, Brandon, and John David who also inherited the musical gene. David often sang his favorite Elvis tunes and was heavily influenced by Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard.

With his strong family bond, David followed in his father’s footsteps as a house painter, which he continued for fifty years until his retirement in 2020. Throughout his career, David employed several of his nephews and others who he had an immense influence on and strong connection with, many of whom still paint today.

David was more than just a painter and musician; he was an avid gardener, planting corn, tomatoes, okra, squash, and watermelons. He also loved to tend to his chickens at the delight of his great-grandchildren who insist on seeing the chickens any time they visit.

More than anything else, David loved his family. He enjoyed the quieter moments in life, sharing a cup of coffee and chatting about the good ol’ days. With a quiet temperament, David kept his family laughing with his witty humor and always had a hug for his family.

In addition to his parents, three sisters: Martha Peters West, Carolyn Peters Galloway, and Sarah Grace Peters; two brothers: Jimmy Peters, and Dan Peters, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Killingsworth Peters; two daughters: Karie Peters Lucius (Joe), and Kellie Peters Smith (Malcolm), son, David Aaron Peters (April);  grandchildren: Brett Singletary (Hillary), Brandon Goulet (Matti), Brittany Goulet Mathis (Christopher), Evan Ballard (Hannah), John David Ballard, Nathaniel Goulet, Nicholas Goulet, Rachel Peters, Kendall Peters, Brittany Smith Quattlebaum (Dewayne), and Skylar Smith (Brittany); eight great-grandchildren; sister, Vicky Jimmerson (Jack); brothers: Phillip Peters (Betty), Gerald Peters (Dorothy), and Bobby Peters (Donna); a host of nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
