Mr. Delbert Brown, age 89, of Dothan, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020.


Born October 9, 1931 in Houston County to the late William Clarence Brown and Bertie Katherine Kirkland Brown, Delbert was a faithful member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed camping and fishing and loving on his children and grandchildren. He attended many sports activities of his children and grandchildren before his health declined.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Grace Brown; his sister, Blondell DeShazo; his brothers, Morris Brown and Paul Brown.


He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Scott (Steve) and Sherrie B. Tate (Dennis); his son, Keith Brown (Tammy); his grandchildren, Bret Scott (Mindy), Brooke S. Daniels (Neal), Derrick Tate (Ashley), Trey Tate, Heath Brown (Courtney), Haley Grimes, and Hunter Brown; his great-grandchildren, Brantley and Brody Scott, Dylan and Braxton Tate, Thomas Tate, Savannah and Parker Daniels, Stone, Peyton, and Paige Brown, Blakelyn Grimes, and Kasen, Kolten, Kolby, and Kyler Brown; his sisters, Mable Henderson and Charlotte Nowell; his brother, Billy Brown; his long-time caregivers, Jaquie McCray and Bridgette Curry; and a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Mount Gilead Baptist Church with Reverend Andy Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 PM until 2 PM, Thursday, December 17, 2020 prior to the service for friends and family who wish to pay their respects. Due to current COVID guidelines, the immediate family wishes not to be present during this time.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Scott, Dennis Tate, Bret Scott, Derrick Tate, Trey Tate, and Brantley Scott.


The family will be accepting flowers or contributions may be made to Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Delbert’s honor. The family would also like to thank the staff of Kindred Hospice and their Mount Gilead church family for their love and support during this time.
