DL Nowling of Geneva passed away at his home on Friday, September 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  He was 86. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva, with Rev. Wendall Ard, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva, directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Nowling’s honor to the Geneva Masonic Lodge #129, PO Box 152, Geneva, AL 36340. 

Mr. Nowling was born in Coffee County, AL on February 16, 1937, to the late Thomas Melvin Nowling and Sarah Elizabeth Aldridge Nowling.  He retired from DynCorp after thirty-six years of service.  He was a member of the Geneva Masonic Lodge #129. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Faye Nowling; brother, Leslie Slay; and two sisters, Carolyn Slay and Voncille Finney.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Smoker of Panama City Beach, FL; two grandsons, Jason Smoker (Rachal) of Panama City Beach, FL and Justin Smoker (Kate) of Union Springs; four great-grandchildren, Sydney Barrow, Caleb Smoker, Jacob Smoker, and Garrett Smoker; brother, Johnny Slay; and two sisters, Marie Holly and Darlene Slay.
