Obituary: Mr. Donald Curtis Sasser


 


Mr. Donald Curtis Sasser of Slocomb went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 21, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 83. 


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. David Roland and Rev. Theresa Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the Slocomb City Cemetery. 


The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. 


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Donald with your contribution to the First United Methodist Church of Slocomb. 


Mr. Sasser was born November 29, 1940 in Dale County to the late Martha Frances Fralish Sasser and Joseph E. Sasser Sr. Donald owned and operated his own 18-wheeler and drove for over 30 years until his retirement.  He enjoyed classic cars and visiting with his family and was lovingly known as Uncle Duck.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Slocomb where he loved singing in the choir. Donald was a loving husband, and an adoring father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. 


In addition to his parents, twelve brothers and sisters all preceded him in death. 


Survivors include his wife, Mona Holland Sasser; children: Karla Sasser (Richard Hobbs), Janet Brackins (Wade), Greg Roland (Gail), Jamela Roland (Sean); grandchildren: Hannah Irvin (Kate), Emma Irvin, Andrew Brackins (Alex), Rachel Martin (Fisher), Nathan Brackins (Peri), Lydia Brackins; Elizabeth McLendon (Daniel), and David Roland (Lauren); seven great grandchildren; half-sister, Yvonne Keener; special brother-in-law, Dutch Holland (Sara); several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. 


The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Brooke Lossing and Gentiva Hospice for the love and care they provided.
