Mr. Dorsey Lee Rhodes, loving husband, father and grandfather, of Dothan passed from this life to eternity with his Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday evening, December 10, 2011, after a year-long battle with acute leukemia.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Dothan with the Reverends Tony Dye, nephew of Mr. Rhodes and Marshall Collins officiating the celebration of his life and home-going. Entombment services with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. Flowers are accepted or donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church Library of Dothan or Gentiva Hospice.

Mr. Rhodes was born on September 30, 1928, to Clyde G. and Hettie Mae Rhodes in Elba, Alabama. After working much of his young life to help meet his family’s needs, Mr. Rhodes joined the Air Force after 3 years in the National Guard. He served his country during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, he and his wife, Sara, moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where Mr. Rhodes continued and completed his education at FSU while working as Secretary/Treasurer at Dixie Printing. After receiving his degree, he moved his growing family to Dothan, Alabama and started Dothan Printing & Litho on January 1, 1961, accomplishing a dream God had given to him as a teenage boy. During his years of directing Dothan Printing & Litho, Mr. Rhodes also served the community through business and civic organizations including the Kiwanis Club and the Dothan Chamber of Commerce where he served on numerous committees. His first joy was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His family took priority to him after his Lord, and his church was right behind. He served his church family in many positions including teaching Sunday School for 60 years and teaching Training Union. He served as a Chairman of several committees including the Deacon Body, the Pastor Search Committee, the Building Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Sunshine Fellowship. Mr. Rhodes is preceded in death by his father and mother.

Survivors include his loving and caring wife of over 60 years, Sara Dye Rhodes; his brother Clyde (Marylene) Rhodes of DeFuniak Springs, FL; his sister Betty Sue (Horace) Sessions of Kinston, AL; his youngest brother, Terrell (Joyce) of Vacaville, CA; his surviving children are Timothy Lee (Bonnie) Rhodes of Dothan, Rhonda Shea (Ken) Marchman of Niceville, FL, Reginald Alan (Becky) of Dothan, and Thomas Graham Rhodes of Dothan; eight grandchildren, Hannah Wingard, Matthew Rhodes, Stephen Rhodes, Seth Rhodes, Alan (Gina) Marchman, Kellon (Jacquelyn) Marchman, Alexa Rhodes, and Grayson Rhodes; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Wingard and Abigail Wingard.

Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes and family would also like to give special thanks to their caring neighbors, Wayne and Jennifer Godwin.
