Mr. Edward Jimmie Tate, age 80 of Prosperity, Florida passed away on August 12, 2012 at West Florida Hospital.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Tim Harris and Rev. Thomas Ealum.  Burial will follow at Poplar Head United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 13, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.


He was born April 20, 1932 to Doc and Edna Tate.  Mr. Tate was a resident of Prosperity until he was admitted to Baptist Manor Retirement home after becoming ill. Mr. Tate fought a tough battle of Alzheimer’s for the past 5 years. He attended Reedy Assembly of God church before the illness. He worked as a Road Construction Superintendent, a Plant Operator and a mechanic for over 50 years. His work legacy showed in the many Road Paving awards he received by the State of Florida. His sons cherish his work ethics and followed in his footsteps in the road construction industry.  Mr. Tate also enjoyed farming and was very proud and loved his cattle herd. Fishing was his second love, but he seldom took the time to go.


Mr. Tate was preceded in death by his parents.  His loving wife of 52 years Daisy Mims Tate;   two grandchildren Joshua Tate and Shelby Tate and one great grandchild Andrew Toole; two brothers Doc Tate, Jr. and James Tate.










Mr. Tate is survived by four sons. Ronald Tate and wife Kathy of Geneva, AL; Steven Tate and wife Gail of Westville, Fl;  Stanley Tate and wife Tisha of Westville, Fl; and Donald Tate and wife Kim of Ponce De Leon, FL. Two sisters, Ethel Gillman and Grace Eldridge, both of Westville. Two brothers, Charles Tate and wife Janell; Bill Tate and wife Vivian all of Westville, FL. Mr. Tate was a loving grandpa and leaves his legacy for 11 grandchildren, Calvin; Tiffany;  John; Joseph; Toy; Angel; Eli; Kaycee; Sammy; Isaac, Calvin and Kyndall. And 11 Great-grandchildren, Tyler; Nephy; Jacob; Charley; Nicholas; Elizabeth; Jeremiah; Harley; Jonathan; Dalton; and Emily.


Active pallbearers will be his grandsons. Calvin Tate; John Tate; Joseph Tate; Eli Tate;
