Ernest Edwin Whitman, 65, of Dothan, Al, died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at his residence following a courageous battle with a long time illness.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Webb Baptist Church with Chaplain Jack Wingate officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Baptist Church Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral home directing. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the funeral home.

Born in Geneva County, AL, Ernest was a son of the late Ernest Lamarr and Kathleen Faircloth Whitman. He worked for forty years as a mechanic in the heating and air conditioning field. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and is of the Baptist faith. Ernest had a great love for bowling and devoted twenty years to his game and will be inducted into the Greater Dothan Bowling Association “Hall of Fame”. He enjoyed all the friendships that he made while bowling at Patricia Lanes here in Dothan.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Edwin Whitman and Jason Lamarr Whitman both of Dothan, Al; one daughter, Cydney Coleman, Atlanta, Ga, one brother Charles Ray Whitman, Dothan, Al; two sisters, Susie Enfinger, Dothan, Al and Betty Register, Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the Whitman family.
