Mr. Franklin Keim Richter of Dothan Alabama passed away at his home February 1, 2012 at the age of 90. Mr. Richter was the son of Julius Paul Richter and Marie Keim Richter of Cullman Alabama and the husband of Jane M. South Richter who predeceased him in 2010 following 61 years of marriage.  He was also preceded in death by brothers Edward, Alfred, Alphonse Richter and sisters Francis Richter (twin), Catharen Richter Mueller and Olga Richter Kidd.  He is survived by son James Richter (Linda) of Johnson City, Tennessee and daughters Carol Richter and Peggy Richter Mills (Don) both of Dothan, Alabama; grandchildren David (Kelly) of Rochester, MN., Karen Richter Leavengood (Albert) of Lookout Mountain, Tn., Brian Mills and Alan Mills both of Dothan; great-grandchildren Sam and Luci Jane Richter and Kathryn and Andrew Leavengood; sister Agnes Richter Cordes of Cullman, Alabama. 


Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Richter and Reverend David Richter officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday, February 4, 2012, one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice 104 Rockbridge Rd. Dothan, AL 36303.


Mr. Richter served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force during World War II with the 8th Air Force, 20th Fighter Group in Europe.  Following the war he was employed with Hayes Aircraft Corp / Pemco World Air Services for 34 years prior to his retirement in 1987. 


Mr. Richter was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.


Mr. Richter enjoyed flying, gardening, working around his home, reading, fishing and being with his family.  He was a very self-disciplined and hard working man and a loving husband, father and grandfather.
