Freddie Roy Dixon, a resident of Pansey, died Saturday, February 10, 2024 at his residence. He was 92. 


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverends Terry Drinkwater and S.E. Newberry officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Gordon, Alabama. 


Mr. Dixon was born in Barbour County, Alabama to the late Sandy Thomas “Bud” and Abbie Lee Nora Mitchell Dixon. He was a veteran of the Korean War and worked in the telephone industry for over 50 years before his retirement. He was a faithful member of Union Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Pansey, Alabama. In his retirement, he enjoyed yard work, the great outdoors and being with his loving wife of 73 years. He also enjoyed having fun, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Dixon always had a warm smile to give and a gentle spirit to share. He was born into a large family of 14, whom he loved dearly. He learned early the value of hard work and faithfulness that he passed down to his children. He never gave up on anything he put his hand to. Although he will be greatly missed, he leaves wonderful memories to be cherished and shared for his family and friends.


Mr. Dixon is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma Inez Bodiford Dixon; son, Tony Wallace Dixon; sisters, Lillian Messer Deese, Madeline Herndon, Alma Chandler, Sarah Nell Dixon, and Jemima Bond; brothers, Lester Dixon, Frank Dixon, JR Dixon, Rufus Dixon, Comer Dixon and “Little Buddy”. 


Survivors include his children, Jerry Roy Dixon and his wife, Becky, Rose Marie Drinkwater and her husband, Terry; grandchildren, Jarrett Roy Dixon and wife, Aleah, Patty Armstrong and husband, Joe Paul, Kathy Arnold and husband, Scot, Heather Gomez, Abby Grier and husband, Jay, Erin Lynn and husband, Rob; great grandchildren, Justin Alexander, Jacob Alexander, Mason Alexander, Taylor Dixon and wife, Hannah Brooke, Evan Dixon and wife, Jessi, Bruce Arnold, Emily Arnold, Gabriel Grier, Nathan Grier, Elijah Jackson, Amelia Rose Lynn, Idris Gomez and Aziza Gomez; brothers, Robert Dixon and wife, Doris, Delma Dixon and wife, Barbara, several nieces and nephews, sister in law, Doris Sowell and life-long friend and neighbor, Helen Parish. 


The family wishes to thank Dayspring Hospice for their love, care and support during this time with a very special thank you to Olivia, Sonia and Ashley.
