Gary Thomas Orr of Dothan, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family as they said their “this isn’t goodbye, it’s see ya later.”

Born on September 12, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, to Roy and Mary Orr, Gary’s zest for life never knew any bounds.  He shared 33 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Pamela Orr, who was his partner in both life and in cheering on the Carolina Panthers, even when they fumbled. His legacy includes his sons, Tom Orr (Buffy) and David Orr (Kim); step-sons, Jeff Bryant (Katie) and Travis Bryant (Amanda); sisters, Sara Jones and Janet Wenzel (Ken); grandchildren, Ashlee Vang (Jerry), Samantha Orr, Tess Orr, Gracie Orr, Kaleb Bryant (Arin), Austin Bryant, Josh Bryant (Elena), Griffin Bryant, and Courtney Bryant; great-grandson, Archy Bryant; grandpups, Lexy, Maya, and Thunder; and several special friends.

Gary’s love for collecting Santas, Wichita State Shockers, and his garden was only matched by his passion for the North Carolina Mountains and the beach. A loveable crotchety old man to some, Gary’s strong faith and service as a former Deacon at First Christian Church in Greensboro, North Carolina, showcased the depth of his loving heart.

He leaves us with memories filled with laughter and the warmth of his adventurous spirit. His was a life well-lived, and well-loved, and the world is a little less bright without him. Heaven, on the other hand, just got a lot more entertaining.
