James Calvin Mercer, 89, of Ashford, Alabama, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Love Hill Assembly of God Church with Reverend Marrell Turvin officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of the daughter.

Born in Houston County, Alabama, Calvin was a son of the late Warren and Jenny McNeal Mercer. He was employed by Malone Ford Motor Company, which later became Bondy’s Ford for thirty years as an auto body painter and was a member of Love Hill Assembly of God Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Wilma Watson Mercer, a brother, Benton Mercer; five sisters, Elvie Harmon, Thelma King, Lucy Strickland, Grace Tolar and Margaret Phillips.

Surviving are a son & daughter-in-law, Danny & Ocie Mercer, Dothan, AL; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce & Gary Loftin, Dothan, AL; a brother & sister-in-law, Charles & Mary Mercer, Ashford, AL; grandchildren, Julie (Brian) Lindsey, Mandy (Jarrod) Strickland, Kim Mercer, Cassandra (Will) Chadwick, Michael (Buffy) Jernigan, Stephen (Cindy) Jernigan, Alyson (Steve Aplin) Tedder; great grandchildren, Brison Lindsey, Brody Lindsey, Lanie Brooke Lindsey, Jackson Strickland, Landon Strickland, Cameron Strickland, Kelsey Ward, Macey Ward, Caleb Chadwick , Andrew Chadwick, Hunter Chadwick, Callie Jernigan, Caitlin Jernigan and Colton Jernigan.

The family would like to say a Special Thank You to the Angels of Covenant Hospice.
