James Earl Wells, a resident of Cottonwood, Al, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Flowers Hospital. He was 74.


Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Harper’s Joy Assembly of God Church with Reverend Eddie Littlefield and Reverend Thomas Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the funeral home and at other times will be at their respective homes.


Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity of one’s choice.


Born in Houston County, Al, Mr. Wells was a son of the late Hosea Clifton & Ressie Lee Sellers Wells. James was a graduate of Cottonwood High School and played football for the Bears. He was a farmer most of his working life and was of the Assembly of God Faith.


Surviving are his former wife, Barbara McKnight Wells, Midland City, Al; two brothers, Lamond (Judy) Wells & Pat (Janice) Wells all of Cottonwood, Al; two sisters, Clara (Steve) Nowell, Cottonwood, Al & Virginia (Clinton) Crooms, Pansey, Al; several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much also survive.


Southern Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the Wells family.
