James (Jim) L. Jeffcoat, a resident of Gordon, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at his home. He was 80 years old.


Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, February 28, 2020 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Grimes officiating. The eulogy will be given by Dr. Samuel Prim. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 PM until 2 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grandview Baptist Church Building Fund, 2400 Forrester Road Dothan, Alabama 36301.


Jim was a member of Grandview Baptist Church. He was employed with Georgia Pacific for 33 years. His favorite pastimes included spending time with his family, tending to cattle on his farm, and hosting friends at his cabin. He was also an avid freshwater and saltwater fisherman.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Paul Jeffcoat, Sr. and Devata Benton Jeffcoat; and his first wife, Jacquelyn Burkett Jeffcoat.


Survivors include his wife, Mary Temple Jeffcoat; two sons, Douglas Jeffcoat (Natalie), and Todd Jeffcoat (Shirley); one daughter, Roxanne Woods (Tim); two stepdaughters, Phyllis Shaurette, and Amy Self (Matthew); two brothers, Paul Jeffcoat, Jr. (Lynn), and George Jeffcoat (Gloria); nine grandchildren, Jeremy Jeffcoat (Sabrina), Ivey Hall (Chad), Kristen Pate (Daniel), Caley Gill (Tony), Tyler Woods, Mahaley Woods, Morgan Bush (Aaron), Clayton Self (Alexandria), and Emma Shaurette; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Hall, Buddy Stewart, Kenneth Burch, Gene Mills, Gary Lawrence, Wade Bain, James Fitch, Hal Bynum, and George Talley.


The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Bob Oxendine, Ashley Brown, and Covenant Hospice for their excellent care.
