James “Jim” Leslie Hyink , a resident of Ashford, died Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Noland Hospital in Dothan, Alabama following an extended stay at Southeast health Medical Center. He was 87.



Mr. Hyink’s wishes were for cremation and no services are planned at this time.



Jim was born April 1, 1936 in Ohio to the late James and Dorothy Swann Hyink. At 17 he joined the United States Air Force and later moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. He moved to Ashford in 1971  with Operating Engineers Local 653 out of Mobile to help build Farley Nuclear Plant. Jim later owned and operated Jimco Tires in Ashford. He was a member of the Azalea Lodge 898 in Mobile and also a Shriner.



Jim is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Hyink.



Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Pat Hyink; children, Sherri Mercer (Mike), Gary Hyink (Debbie); grandchildren, Ashley Reynolds (Joshua), Josh Mercer (Monica), Melissa Mercer; great grandchildren, Benjamin, Ethan, Emerie, Hannah and a brother, Gerald Hyink, sister in law Zafe Hyink.
