OZARK…Mr. James “Jamie” Tilley, IV, a resident of Ozark, died late Monday morning, April 4, 2022, in an Ozark nursing home. He was 77.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 9, 2022, in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Reverend Dr. Jason Thrower officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:30 P.M.  Saturday at the funeral home.

Jamie was a native of Ozark and was a 1962 graduate of Howey Academy in Howey, Florida. He continued his education at Phillips Business College in Columbus, Georgia where received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. While attending Phillips Business College, he was recognized as Outstanding First Year Student and received several other awards. Jamie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark.

In his later years, he was an avid collector of watches and his enthusiasm for playing bingo was legendary. His greatest joy was to greet each visitor at the nursing home entrance with a huge smile and cheerful hello. Many lovingly called him “The Mayor”. He had the amazing ability to find something wonderful about an individual and to sincerely complement them, whether it was for the first time or the hundredth time they had met. He made many a person’s day better by this thoughtful attitude.

Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, James P. Tilley, III and Martha W. Tilley. He is survived by his loving sister, Janann T. Williams (Raymond); his niece, Meredith J. Lagan (Chris); his nephews, William A. Hopton-Jones, Jr., Jonathan Gregory Hopton-Jones (Jennifer); his aunt, Allowee Johnston; several great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Ozark Health & Rehabilitation Facility for the many years of providing their love, devotion, and care to Jamie. He loved you, as does his family.
