Mr. James William Hill, Sr. of Samson passed away at Wiregrass Medical Center on Friday, July 6, 2012.  He was 80.  He is healed now and is dancing with The Lord.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2012 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with Rev. Donal Wilsingham officiating.  Burial will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until service time. 


 Mr. Hill was born in North Carolina on July 13, 1931 to the late Ervin and Vivian Holhouser Hill.  He owned and operated Hill & Hill Excavation for many years.  He loved to watch Atlanta Braves Baseball and Alabama Football.  Mr. Hill proudly served his country in the US Army. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Pridgen.


 Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Carrie Juanita Hill; four children, James William Hill, Jr. and wife, Pam, James Goodman and wife, Stacy, Jennie Ward and husband, Bret, all of Samson, and Becky Steele and husband, Billy of Laurel Hill, FL; nine grandchildren, James William Hill, III, Lance Ward, Emily Ward, Devin Goodman, Danielle Goodman, Chelsea Bryant, Sherri Stewart, Leann White and husband, Jamie, and Michelle Revels and husband, Kenneth; eleven great grandchildren; and his sister, Nora Page.
